Crazy Coots was inspired by the time I spent visiting my Granny in the nursing home where she lived out the final years of her life .
During that time I learned a great deal about old folks. In fact, all the preconceived notions about nursing homes and the elderly were pretty much gone after the experience. Prior to that time, the thought of a nursing homes usually conjured up images of pale, catatonic-looking zombies, sitting lifeless in the halls of some institution, waiting patiently for the grim reaper to come save them from a nightmarish existence. Well as it turns out, nothing could have been further from the truth. The facility was bright and cheery, the staff were respectful and caring, and the resident seniors…. talk about a bunch of characters. Some were sweet and nice, and some were not so sweet and nice. There were the grumpy complainers, and there were the mischievous pranksters that got a kick out of tormenting them. All in all, It was a fabulous place full of colorful crazy people! The perfect cast and setting for a cartoon strip.
